Sagarmal Gopa was a freedom fighter and patriot from Rajasthan, India.
I am sure, a lot of people wouldn’t have heard about him, but he was an unsung hero of the Non-Cooperation Movement in 1921.
Due to his involvement in various activities towards the freedom movement, he was opposed by a lot of people in the state of Rajasthan and was also expelled from Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. However, he still continued to contribute his bit to the freedom movement.
After his fathers’ death, he thought of returning to Jaisalmer. The Jaisalmer state had given verbal and written assurances that no case is registered against him and he would not be apprehended for ill-treatment.
However, he was arrested without assigning any reason in 1941 and was sent to jail where he was badly tortured. He breathed his last on 4th April 1946, by bearing all sorts of cruelties at the hands of jail officials.
I recommend you to read the books ‘Raghunath Singh Ka Mukadma’ and ‘Jaisalmer Rajya Ka Gunda Shasan’, written by him to motivate the public.
